Narine Dat Sookram, a native of Guyana, South America is a Community Builder and a Cultural Innovator. The Community Champion who was named one of the RBC’s Top 25 Canadian Immigrant in 2013 has demonstrated commitment and dedication through voluntary service as a mentor for thousands of people both locally and internationally.
Sookram has for the past two decades contributed to the development and advancement of the ‘underprivileged’ population. In addition, he has initiated the award winning Caribbean Dreams Concert which takes place in early summer each year and is where new and young artistes get to showcase their artistic talent. He also initiated a weekly community radio show, Caribbean Spice and founded Empower Employment where he works with job seekers to find them their best career fit.
He has received hundreds of awards plus over thirty five World Records for his work, some of which include the International Service Excellence Award for Director of the Year, 2014, Ontario Newcomer Champion Award Recipient, 2014; Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award 2013; the Waterloo Award – The city’s highest civic honour 2012 and many more…..
The Global Public Peace Prize winner is a graduate of Brock University, Conestoga College and Mohawk College. He is a proud husband, married to Reshma and they both have a child named Shreya. He has become a role model for many from near and far and is a positive addition to the Region of Waterloo and has set high standards for other to follow.
